About Thai Congo Philodendron

Prismacolor Thai Congo is a named foliage selection in the philodendron group. Philodendrons vary widely in leaf shape and growth form, so give the plant a warm indoor position and enough room for its foliage to develop. ## Growing conditions For general container care, North Carolina State Extension recommends bright indirect light, warm temperatures and moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. The Royal Horticultural Society advises keeping philodendrons warm, using a loose free-draining potting mix and allowing the compost surface to dry slightly between waterings. These are genus-level recommendations; light and moisture needs can vary among philodendron types. ## Maintenance Keep the plant away from cold drafts and intense direct sun. Water thoroughly, then let excess drain rather than leaving the pot standing in water. Repot when the roots become crowded, preferably in spring. Philodendrons can irritate skin and cause discomfort if chewed, so place the plant beyond the reach of children and pets.
