About Phloxstar™ Magenta Phlox drummondii

Phloxstar™ Magenta is an annual Phlox drummondii selection with single magenta blooms and a compact, mounded form. Danziger lists spring and summer flowering and a mature range of 12–14 inches tall by 14–16 inches wide; it identifies the selection for pots, landscape plantings, and hanging baskets. [Danziger’s Phloxstar™ Magenta page](https://www.danzigeronline.com/catalog/annuals/phloxstar-magenta/) ## Garden use Plant it near the front of mixed beds or repeat it in a broad seasonal display. The breeder’s size and stated pot use also suit patio containers. North Carolina State Extension describes annual phlox as a Texas native that grows in full sun to part shade and prefers sandy, well-drained soil, while tolerating other well-drained soils. Its flowers can attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Water during establishment and extended dry spells; the species has moderate to high drought tolerance once growing. Remove faded flowers for a tidier display, or leave some to mature where self-seeding is welcome.
