About Phloxstar™ Red Phlox drummondii

Phloxstar™ Red is a mounded annual Phlox drummondii selection with single red flowers. Danziger lists it for spring and summer bloom at about 12–14 inches tall and 14–16 inches wide, with use in landscape plantings, pots, and hanging baskets. [Danziger’s Phloxstar™ Red page](https://www.danzigeronline.com/catalog/annuals/phloxstar-red-2/) ## Garden use Place it toward the front of a mixed border or repeat plants for a concentrated seasonal color display. It also fits patio containers; combine with plants of contrasting height and foliage texture. North Carolina State Extension reports that annual phlox grows in full sun to part shade and prefers sandy, well-drained soil, while tolerating other well-drained soils. Its flowers can attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Water through establishment and during extended dry spells; species-level guidance describes moderate to high drought tolerance. Remove spent flowers for a neat appearance, or leave some to mature if reseeding is desired.
