About Cleopatra - Tall Phlox

Phlox paniculata ‘Cleopatra’ is an upright perennial with fragrant, vivid-pink flowers and green, lance-shaped leaves. The Royal Horticultural Society describes rounded clusters with ruffled petals in summer and a height of about 60 cm ([RHS plant profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/343803/phlox-paniculata-cleopatra/details)). ## In the garden Place it in a flower border, cottage garden, or cut-flower area, where the upright stems can be appreciated without crowding. The RHS lists moist, well-drained conditions and chalk, clay, or loam soils, with a broad spread range of 0.1–0.5 m; leave air around the stems and pair it with plants that tolerate similar moisture. ## Growing conditions A sunny site or partial shade suits this phlox. Use fertile soil that stays evenly moist without becoming waterlogged, and give neighboring plants enough room for air movement. Powdery mildew and leaf spot are noted as possible problems, so avoid dense, damp foliage. ## Maintenance Deadhead faded clusters to prolong the flowering display, then cut stems down to the base in late autumn. Divide established clumps in autumn or spring if they outgrow their space, and inspect foliage through the growing season for mildew or leaf spotting.
