Phlox paniculata ‘David’ is a fragrant, white-flowered garden phlox selected for resistance to powdery mildew. NC State Extension describes large flower clusters from mid to late summer, plants 3–4 feet tall and 2–3 feet wide, and possible bloom into fall after deadheading ([NC State cultivar profile](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/phlox-paniculata-david/)).
## In the garden
Use it in the middle of a perennial border, in small masses, or as a cut flower; its white panicles also attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. The cultivar is listed for USDA zones 3a–8b, as well as full sun or partial shade.
## Growing conditions
Provide fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Water during dry spells and mulch to keep the root zone cool. Give stems room for airflow, thin dense growth when needed, and avoid overhead watering to reduce powdery-mildew pressure; taller stems may need staking in exposed positions.
## Maintenance
Remove faded panicles to encourage a longer display, then cut the plant to the ground in winter and clear away old stems. Watch for phlox bugs, spider mites, leaf spot, and root or crown rot, particularly where soil remains poorly drained or foliage is crowded.
