About Delilah - Tall Phlox

Phlox paniculata ‘Delilah’ is a fragrant selection with deep red-purple single flowers and green foliage. Future Plants lists a 50 cm foliage height, 60 cm flowering height, 30 cm spread, July–September flowering, and suitability for sun or half shade ([Future Plants variety detail](https://www.futureplants.com/perennial-varieties/phlox-paniculata-delilah)); the cultivar patent describes an upright habit, flowering from July through September in its Netherlands observations, and hardiness to USDA zone 4 ([USPP17468P2](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP17468P2/en)). ## In the garden Its compact form suits a sunny or partly shaded border, container, or cut-flower garden. Future Plants lists normal soil; choose a position that drains well and can be kept moderately moist during active growth. Phlox paniculata benefits from open spacing and summer water during dry periods ([NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/phlox-paniculata/)). ## Growing conditions Give it room among other perennials and avoid persistent waterlogging. Mulch around the root zone, keep air moving through the planting, and avoid overhead watering where foliage stays damp. ## Maintenance Deadhead spent flower heads to tidy the plant and support a longer display, then cut stems back in winter. Divide established clumps in autumn or spring if needed, and monitor leaves for powdery mildew or leaf spot.
