Early® Marine is a named Early Start™ selection of garden phlox for perennial planting. Like other Phlox paniculata, garden phlox provides a summer flower display above leafy stems and suits sunny borders where the clump can have room to mature.
## Growing conditions
Choose full sun where possible; garden phlox often tolerates part sun. Moist, well-drained soil and good air movement support healthy growth, and supplemental water may be needed during hot, dry spells. Iowa State notes that garden-phlox cultivars vary greatly in mature size and flower color, so allow space rather than relying on a single species-wide dimension.
## Maintenance
Divide clumps in spring or late summer to early fall, and keep new divisions watered through their first growing season. Good spacing and removing infected foliage in autumn can help limit powdery mildew. These recommendations describe the species, not a cultivar-specific mildew rating.
