About Mangrove Date Palm

Phoenix paludosa is a clustering palm native to southern Asia, found in shoreline habitat and commonly called the Mangrove Date Palm. Singapore’s NParks profile describes it as a tropical palm for full sun with high water needs, and reports tolerance of waterlogged and saline root zones, including salt spray. These traits suit warm coastal gardens where its palm-like fountain form can be allowed to spread. ## Landscape Use Use it where a tropical, multi-stem palm has room to broaden, such as a spacious coastal planting. Its green to light-green foliage and fountain-like outline provide year-round structure among broad-leaved tropical plants. The shoreline association and salt-spray tolerance make it especially relevant to humid maritime sites. [NParks’ species profile](https://www.nparks.gov.sg/florafaunaweb/flora/2/6/2663) also notes that plant material is toxic if ingested. ## Maintenance Provide bright, full sun and regular moisture. NParks records tolerance of waterlogged and saline root zones, so the plant can suit moist coastal conditions. Give the crown and mature fronds enough clearance, and remove only damaged or dead leaves with care. Keep fallen fruit and cut foliage away from areas where children may handle or ingest plant material.
