Create design onlineAbout Apricot Queen™ New Zealand Flax
Apricot Queen is an evergreen, clump-forming New Zealand flax selected for leathery, arching leaves in peach-yellow tones edged with green. The RHS describes occasional upright stems of bronze flowers in summer and gives mature height and spread of 1–1.5 metres. Its warm foliage color brings contrast to mixed borders, architectural plantings and containers.
## Garden Placement
Set the clump where its arching leaves can be seen against darker foliage or a simple wall. Full sun and part shade are both suitable. The RHS lists chalk, loam and sand among suitable soil textures and recommends fertile soil that stays moist but drains well. Allow roughly 3–5 feet for both height and spread as the clump matures.
## Maintenance
Water during establishment and in prolonged dry weather, while avoiding persistently stagnant conditions. In frost-prone gardens, the RHS recommends a dry winter mulch. Remove damaged leaves at their base in spring, and divide the clump in spring if propagation or rejuvenation is needed. Evergreen foliage supplies structure outside the summer flower season.
