About Purple Mountain™ New Zealand Flax

Purple Mountain flax adds arching foliage in bronze-purple and green tones to mixed borders. This evergreen New Zealand flax is valued for its flowing clump form and strong color contrast. ## Landscape Use Use it as an accent or mass planting in native-style and contemporary gardens. A New Zealand nursery lists mature dimensions of 1–1.5 m tall by 1.5–2 m wide, so leave room for a broad clump. ## Growing Conditions Plant in full sun or part shade. The same nursery describes the form as tolerant of wind, frost and dry conditions once established; water consistently while new roots establish, then adjust to rainfall and soil. See the [Queenstown Nursery profile](https://www.queenstownnursery.co.nz/shop/product/921692/phormium-cookianum-purpurea-purple-mountain-flax/) for selection details. ## Maintenance Remove dead or damaged leaves in spring, following the [Royal Horticultural Society's Phormium guidance](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/12800/phormium-tenax-yellow-wave/details). Preserve healthy foliage fans and allow the arching leaves to keep their natural outline.
