Create design onlineAbout Fraser Photinia
Fraser photinia is a broadleaf evergreen shrub or small tree with upright, rounded growth. Its copper-red young leaves contrast with mature dark-green foliage, and clusters of white flowers open in mid-spring.
## Landscape Use
Use it as a hedge or privacy screen, allowing space for a mature size of about 10–20 ft tall and 10–15 ft wide. [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/photinia-x-fraseri/common-name/fraser-photinia/) describes it as a hybrid of P. glabra and P. serratifolia.
## Growing Conditions
Plant in moist, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade with good air circulation. Established shrubs tolerate drought and salt spray but not wet conditions; the profile lists USDA zones 7a–9b.
## Maintenance
Avoid overhead watering because wet foliage and humid sites increase leaf-spot risk. Late-spring pruning can encourage another flush of red leaves but removes flowers. The white blooms are fragrant, with an odor many people find unpleasant; consult the [NC State profile](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/photinia-x-fraseri/common-name/fraser-photinia/) when choosing a site.
