COLORBURST™ ‘Deep Red’ is a Terra Nova selection of Cape fuchsia with deep red flowers, yellow throats, purple sepals, and burgundy flower stalks. Terra Nova lists the plant as Phygelius × rectus COLORBURST™ ‘Deep Red’ (‘TNPHYCDR’), PP31397, EU61729, and describes a long May-to-October flowering season. Its [official plant page](https://www.terranovanurseries.com/product/phygelius-colorburst-deep-red/) gives USDA Zones 7–10, full sun to part shade, and foliage height, width, and flowering height separately.
## Appearance and placement
The bright flowers rise above green foliage and attract hummingbirds and other pollinators. The plant suits borders and mixed containers. Terra Nova’s page lists foliage height of 20 inches, foliage width of 28 inches, and flowering height of 30 inches; these are source measurements, while garden size can vary with climate and culture.
## Growing conditions
Grow in full sun or partial shade in average, well-drained soil. Water regularly while establishing; established plants tolerate drier conditions. Good drainage is particularly important in winter. The breeder rates it for USDA Zones 7–10.
## Maintenance
Deadhead spent flowers to maintain a tidy display and encourage further flowering. In colder climates, leave old stems through winter for some crown protection and cut back as growth resumes in spring. The compact habit is described by the breeder as non-spreading; avoid transferring that claim to other Phygelius types.
