Showy Yellow Groove Bamboo is a tall, running bamboo with rosy-pink new shoots and golden canes marked by a green groove. The Royal Horticultural Society accepts Phyllostachys aureosulcata f. spectabilis and lists the assigned name Phyllostachys aurea 'Spectabilis' as a synonym, linking this record to the same named form. ## Form and size
The RHS profile describes golden culms with a green stripe and mature size of 4–8 m tall by 2.5–4 m wide, approximately 13–26 ft high and 8–13 ft across. Plants spread by running rhizomes, so this species makes a bold evergreen screen where there is room to manage its lateral growth.
## Growing conditions
Plant in full sun or partial shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. The RHS lists chalk and loam and advises shelter from cold, drying winds. The Missouri Botanical Garden profile records USDA Zone 5 as the coldest zone where it is hardy; that is a lower hardiness limit, not a complete upper-zone range. ## Containment
Running bamboo can travel beyond its original planting area. Before planting, plan for a sturdy rhizome barrier or another contained site, and check the perimeter regularly so new shoots can be removed before they become established.
## Maintenance
Keep the root zone evenly moist while the planting establishes, then water during prolonged dry spells. Inspect the containment boundary each growing season, remove unwanted shoots promptly, and cut out damaged or dead culms at ground level.
