Create design onlineAbout Bissett's Bamboo
Bissett's bamboo is a dense, vigorous evergreen bamboo with dark-green canes and narrow, mid-green leaves. It spreads by running rhizomes, so its mature footprint needs planning.
## Landscape Use
Use it as a tall screen or architectural backdrop; the [Royal Horticultural Society profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/64843/phyllostachys-bissetii/details) lists a mature height and spread of 4–8 m. In confined sites, grow it in a large container or install a root barrier to limit expansion.
## Growing Conditions
Plant in fertile, moist, well-drained soil in full sun or part shade, and shelter new plants from cold, drying winds. Although it may initially appear clump-forming in cool conditions, Phyllostachys has running rhizomes and can be vigorous in favorable sites.
## Maintenance
Remove damaged canes and thin some older stems to reveal newer growth. Check the containment area periodically where spread needs to be limited. See the [RHS species profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/64843/phyllostachys-bissetii/details) for cultivation guidance.
