Spicy Devil™ Purple Ninebark

Spicy Devil® is a compact ninebark whose new leaves emerge in orange and yellow tones before maturing to reddish purple. White-pink spring flowers contrast with the mature foliage, and the plant reaches about 3–4 feet tall and wide. First Editions identifies it as Physocarpus opulifolius ‘ZLENatalie’ PP34,244 and lists zones 3–7; [the Spicy Devil® profile](https://firsteditionsplants.com/product/spicy-devil-ninebark/) gives dimensions, color sequence, and cultural details. ## In the Garden Grow it in full sun as a foundation shrub, small hedge, or structural accent in a mixed border. The changing foliage gives the planting a seasonal color shift. First Editions also lists deer resistance, drought tolerance, and container suitability. ## Maintenance The First Editions care guide recommends early-spring pruning and medium watering. Water regularly while the shrub establishes; thereafter, adjust irrigation to the soil and local weather, especially during prolonged dry spells.
