Whiskey Blue Hills is a blue-needled Black Hills spruce with a pyramidal, semi-compact outline. The Iseli Nursery plant page gives a garden size of about 25 feet tall by 15 feet wide and describes a fast-growing, cold-hardy selection for full sun and well-drained soil.
## Appearance and placement
Powdery blue needles provide strong evergreen color through the year. The broad upright habit works as a specimen, a visual screen, or part of a conifer grouping where the eventual width can be accommodated. Allow air and light around the branches instead of placing it in a narrow strip. Iseli lists hardiness zone 3, while other nursery conventions may use different zone systems; the catalog’s existing USDA field is therefore left as recorded.
## Growing conditions
Plant in full sun and drained soil. Water during establishment and during prolonged drought; avoid persistently saturated sites. Its natural pyramidal shape usually needs little pruning. The [Iseli Nursery profile](https://iselinursery.com/colorful-conifers/picea-spruce/picea-glauca-whiskey-blue-hills/) is the exact plant-detail reference for the selection and its mature garden size.
## Maintenance
Keep mulch shallow and away from the trunk. Inspect after heavy snow or wind and remove broken wood with clean cuts. If a screen is desired, space plants for their mature spread rather than shearing them into a narrow profile.
