Create design onlineAbout North Star White Spruce
Picea glauca 'North Star' is a compact, densely branched white spruce with a classic pyramidal shape and medium-green needles. Iseli Nursery identifies it as its introduction and describes moderate growth, about 12 feet tall by 6 feet wide, and suitability for larger exposed spaces, mixed borders and beds. ## Form and garden use
Its sturdy, compact pyramid provides year-round evergreen structure without the breadth of a large white spruce. Use it as an upright accent or in a mixed border where the mature height and spread can be accommodated. The published dimensions are garden estimates and may vary with climate, soil and growing time.
## Growing conditions
Iseli lists full sun and hardiness zone 3. Plant in a site with room for the crown to develop and soil that drains well. The nursery describes the selection as notably hardy and appropriate for exposed locations; local winter and wind conditions still affect establishment.
## Maintenance
Water thoroughly at planting and regularly while the root system establishes. Iseli advises keeping the root flare at or slightly above grade, not burying the root ball under mulch, and watering deeply during dry periods. Adjust irrigation to rainfall and soil drainage.
