*Picea mariana* ‘Ericoides’, also called Blue Nest Spruce, is a dwarf evergreen with fine needles and a low, spreading cushion form. It works as a close-view accent or along a border where its compact shape and soft texture can be appreciated. The [American Conifer Society](https://conifersociety.org/conifers/picea-mariana-ericoides) describes a broad size of 1–5 feet after ten years, while [Trees and Shrubs Online](https://www.treesandshrubsonline.org/articles/picea/picea-mariana/) gives about 30 cm tall by 70 cm wide under optimum conditions at the same age.
## Form and Placement
The plant develops a rounded bun with a shallow central depression and short, slender needles. Its slow annual growth helps it hold a small-scale role in a rock garden, front border, or conifer collection. The American Conifer Society recommends it as an accent or border plant.
## Size
Published size estimates vary considerably for this cultivar. Allow lateral room for its spreading habit; the American Conifer Society’s range is intentionally broad, while the historical account on Trees and Shrubs Online describes the smaller form under optimum conditions.
## Maintenance
Preserve the natural cushion rather than shearing it into a different shape. Check with the supplying nursery for local siting and watering guidance, since the cultivar references above focus on habit and size rather than detailed care.
