About Hoopsii Colorado Blue Spruce Tree

Hoopsii is a pyramidal Colorado spruce with stiff, silvery-blue needles and a strong evergreen presence. It is best used as a specimen or large-scale landscape accent, with ample space for its long-term height and spread. [Royal Horticultural Society](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/98036/picea-pungens-glauca-group-hoopsii/details) [Van den Berk](https://www.vdberk.com/trees/picea-pungens-hoopsii/) ## Form and garden use The Royal Horticultural Society describes a dense, narrowly conical tree with rigid, prickly blue-silver needles. Published size estimates differ: RHS gives a smaller garden height range, while Van den Berk lists a much taller mature tree. Allow generous room and treat nursery size figures as dependent on age and conditions rather than assuming a compact final form. ## Growing conditions Plant in full sun in well-drained soil; some light shade is tolerated. Water regularly during establishment and during extended dry spells, but avoid waterlogged ground. Its cool-toned foliage and formal outline give year-round structure. ## Maintenance Keep the natural leader and conical form. Remove dead or damaged branches as needed; routine shearing is unnecessary and can make the outline unnatural.
