Pilea peperomioides is a compact, clumping evergreen perennial grown indoors for its round, dark green leaves. NC State Extension describes a typical mature plant as 8–12 inches high and similarly wide, and recommends bright indirect light. ([NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/pilea-peperomioides/))
## Growing Conditions
Place it in bright, indirect light and use a well-drained potting mix. Keep the mix lightly moist, then let excess water drain away; persistent saturation can cause root rot. Average household humidity is usually tolerated, although the plant also grows well with higher humidity. Keep it away from cold drafts and heat vents.
## Propagation
Established plants can produce small offsets near the base. Separate rooted pups or use stem cuttings to make additional plants. The foliage may become leggy when light is inadequate, so move it closer to a bright window while keeping direct hot sun off the leaves.
## Maintenance
Check the potting mix regularly and water when it begins to dry rather than keeping the roots soggy. Remove damaged leaves and divide offsets when they crowd the pot. Flowers are uncommon indoors; this plant is mainly valued for its foliage.
