Bosnian Pine is an evergreen conifer native to the Balkans, also known as Heldreich’s Pine or Snakeskin Pine. It develops a dense pyramidal crown, dark green paired needles, and distinctive pale gray bark that becomes fissured with age.
## Features
This species is sometimes listed as Pinus leucodermis, but Oregon State University treats that name as a synonym and accepts Pinus heldreichii. Mature dimensions vary across references: the University of Utah lists 25–35 feet high by 15–20 feet wide, while the Royal Horticultural Society lists height above 12 metres and a spread of 4–8 metres. Site planning should account for the broader mature-size estimates. ## Growing Conditions
The University of Utah recommends full sun and moist, well-drained soil and reports USDA Zones 4–8. The species tolerates cold and wind and is naturally associated with high elevations in southeastern Europe. ## Maintenance
Allow room for a full pyramidal crown, water during establishment, and maintain drainage. Its naturally formed outline generally needs little shaping.
