About Satellite - Columnar Bosnian Pine

‘Satellit’ is a narrow, upright Bosnian pine selection sold under the common name Satellite. The [Royal Horticultural Society profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/62395/pinus-heldreichii-satellit/details) lists *Pinus leucodermis* ‘Satellit’ as a synonym and describes a strongly fastigiate evergreen with closely clustered dark-green needles. ## Form and mature size The RHS gives 2.5–4 m tall and 0.5–1 m wide. The [American Conifer Society](https://conifersociety.org/conifers/pinus-heldreichii-satellit) reports a 6 by 3 ft specimen after ten years, while [Pine Lane Nursery](https://www.pinelanenursery.com/catalog/product/pine-bosnian-satellite/) lists a larger eventual 12–15 ft by 10–12 ft range. [Utah State University](https://extension.usu.edu/botanicalcenter/trees-of-varga-arboretum/satellite-bosnian-pine) records a 12 by 8 ft arboretum specimen. These sources reflect differing ages and cultivation; the catalog retains its supported 3.5 m height and 1 m spread. The narrow upright habit suits a vertical accent or screen where eventual space is available. ## Siting The RHS recommends full sun and well-drained soil and lists chalk, clay, loam, and sand. Pine Lane reports USDA zone 4 and Utah State University zones 6–8; those seller and arboretum ranges support a combined zone range of 4–8. Pine Lane also notes drought tolerance with age. ## Maintenance Water during establishment and provide drainage. Once established, it can tolerate dry periods. Allow for the eventual size rather than pruning routinely to force a narrower outline.
