Austrian Pine Tree

Austrian pine is a large evergreen conifer for a sunny, open site where its mature crown has room. Its dark blue-green paired needles, rugged bark, and broadening crown make it useful as a specimen or screen. ## Growing Conditions Plant in full sun and moist, well-drained soil; this species tolerates clay and adapts to several soil types. Established trees tolerate urban pollution, salt, and drought, but deep soil supports stronger growth. The species can become a substantial tree, so allow room for a mature crown and avoid crowding nearby structures. The straight trunk and dense evergreen crown provide year-round structure. ## Maintenance Allow room for the eventual crown and inspect needles and branches for common pine pests and blights. Water during establishment, then adjust irrigation to soil moisture and local conditions.
