Create design onlineAbout Dwarf Schwerin's Pine
Dwarf Schwerin’s pine is a compact, upright hybrid selection with soft light-green needles that show silvery undersides. The American Conifer Society identifies it as Pinus × schwerinii ‘Wiethorst’, a cross between eastern white pine and Himalayan pine that produces abundant cones even when young. Plantlust lists both ‘Wiethorst’ and ‘Weithorst’ spellings, supporting the captured scientific-name spelling.
### Form and placement
The selection grows with a narrow pyramidal to columnar outline and suits a small conifer collection, a focal planting, or a mixed evergreen bed where its pale, two-toned needles can be seen closely. It is not the ordinary full-sized Schwerin’s pine. Published annual-growth figures differ, so check local nursery examples when estimating its eventual size.
## Maintenance
Choose a site with enough room for the eventual upright crown and avoid crowding its lower branches. Keep the root zone evenly moist while establishing, then water according to local rainfall and soil drainage. Inspect young growth and cones as part of routine care; no cultivar-specific pruning schedule is established by the cited sources.
