About Waterer's Scotch Pine

Waterer’s Scotch Pine (Pinus sylvestris ‘Watereri’) is a slow-growing, upright Scots pine with stiff blue-green or blue-gray needles carried in pairs. Published size estimates differ with the age being measured: a ten-year specimen is described at about 6 feet tall and wide, while the RHS gives a larger mature range. ## Form and landscape use The American Conifer Society describes a broadly conical selection measuring about 6 feet high and wide after ten years, with annual growth of 6–8 inches. RHS lists mature height of 2.5–4 metres and spread of 4–8 metres, with 20–50 years to maturity; the catalog labels reflect that longer-term range, while numeric points remain unspecified. [American Conifer Society](https://conifersociety.org/conifers/pinus-sylvestris-watereri/) and [RHS](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/83464/pinus-sylvestris-watereri/details) provide cultivar-specific descriptions. ## Growing conditions RHS recommends full sun and well-drained soil. This cultivar is evergreen and its mature spread should be considered when choosing a site, particularly where nearby plants or paths need clearance. ## Maintenance Allow room for the crown to broaden as it ages. Routine shaping is not needed to establish its naturally upright, broadly conical form; remove only growth that conflicts with the intended site.
