Loblolly Pine (Pinus taeda) is a fast-growing evergreen tree native to the southeastern United States. It develops from a loosely pyramidal young tree into a dense oval crown as lower branches are lost.
## Form and landscape use
North Carolina State Extension reports typical mature dimensions of 60–90 feet tall and 20–40 feet wide, consistent with the existing catalog point and labels. It is widely used in forestry and can establish in open areas, but its rapid growth and eventual size require generous space. [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/pinus-taeda/) identifies the common names Loblolly pine, Oldfield pine, and Yellow pine.
## Growing conditions
Plant in full sun. The species grows in medium to wet soil and prefers moist, acidic conditions; NC State notes that it tolerates alkaline soil. It performs best in climates with hot, humid summers and mild winters.
## Maintenance
Allow room for its mature crown and avoid planting close to structures where its size and fire risk create conflicts. Once established, it is generally suited to the warm, humid conditions of its native southeastern range.
