Create design onlineAbout Astra Pink Balloon Flower
Platycodon grandiflorus ‘Astra Pink’ is a compact herbaceous perennial with inflated buds that open into soft-pink, bell-shaped flowers above green foliage. The cultivar forms a low mound and brings both its distinctive buds and summer flowers to the front of a border or a container.
Proven Winners lists the selection at 8–10 inches tall and 6–8 inches wide, with pink flowers, green foliage, part sun to sun, and hardiness in USDA zones 3–8. Treeland Nursery independently identifies the exact cultivar and describes a compact, rounded plant for borders, rock features, and containers. The saved height and spread now represent the midpoints of the Proven Winners ranges, with the published ranges kept in the labels. The record remains linked to its existing genus-level parent.
## Maintenance
Grow in full sun to partial shade in well-drained soil. Deadhead spent flowers if a longer display is wanted; N.C. State Extension notes that deadheading can prolong bloom.
