Create design onlineAbout Frangipani
Frangipani is Plumeria rubra, a tropical flowering tree also known as Common Frangipani and Red Frangipani. Its fragrant, showy flowers are a familiar warm-climate feature, while the species can take a tree form and tolerate dry conditions after establishment.
UF/IFAS lists this species for zones 10A–11, full to partial sun, and well-drained soil, with high drought tolerance and flowers in spring and fall. NParks also describes it as coastal tolerant and moderately water-demanding. Flower color varies across cultivars, so this species-level record does not assign one color. Existing height information of 15–25 ft is retained; references give differing spread figures and no width is asserted. See [UF/IFAS Extension](https://blogs.ifas.ufl.edu/sarasotaco/2024/03/19/low-maintenance-landscaping-trees-and-palms/), [NParks](https://www.nparks.gov.sg/FloraFaunaWeb/Flora/3/0/3074), and [RHS](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/94126/plumeria-rubra/details).
## Maintenance
Provide sun and drainage, and water moderately while establishing. Fragrant flowers attract night-flying sphinx moths. Protect from cold outside its tropical range; prune only as needed and avoid treating one cultivar’s flower color as universal.
