About Heavenly Habit Jacob's Ladder

‘Heavenly Habit’ is a compact, clump-forming Polemonium boreale selection with divided green foliage and violet-blue flowers with a contrasting eye. It suits a sunny or partly shaded position with even moisture; in warm conditions, some afternoon shade helps keep the soil from drying. [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/polemonium-boreale-heavenly-habit/) describes its 10–12 inch height, 1–2 foot spread, and routine deadheading, while the [Royal Horticultural Society](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/152417/polemonium-boreale-heavenly-habit/details) records the compact habit and violet-blue spring-to-summer flowers. ## Garden Use Place it in a perennial border, rock garden, or container where its compact mound and seasonal flowers can be seen. Keep the soil evenly moist and allow room for a spread of about 12–24 inches. ## Maintenance Deadhead after flowering to encourage a tidy appearance. NC State Extension recommends cutting the plant back in midsummer when foliage becomes tired; divide clumps in spring or early fall if needed.
