Polygonatum odoratum ‘Ruby Slippers’ is a named Solomon’s seal selection with bright red stems, deep green leaves with silvery undersides, and hanging white flowers. It grows in colonies and spreads gradually, giving shade gardens a distinctive spring display. [Walters Gardens’ cultivar profile](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=POLRS) documents the selection’s identity and garden traits.
## Garden Use
The arching stems suit a woodland border, shaded bed, or container where the foliage can be seen close up. Walters Gardens lists the plant at about 21 inches tall with a 10–21 inch spread, and notes that its stems remain red from the base to the tips. Late-spring flowers hang beneath the stems and are followed by blue berries.
## Growing Conditions
Give it part shade to full shade and fertile soil that stays consistently moist. It can be slow to establish, but the mature colony is long-lived. Leave room for the underground growth to widen rather than placing it where a tight edge is needed.
## Maintenance
Water consistently, especially while plants establish. Divide the fleshy rhizomes in spring or fall, planting them just below the soil surface with the growing tips facing upward.
