Lombardy Poplar Tree

Populus nigra, the black poplar, is a large deciduous tree reaching heights of thirty meters. It features a wide, rounded crown and deeply fissured, dark gray bark that adds winter interest. Its diamond-shaped, shiny green leaves turn a vibrant yellow in autumn. As a rapid-growing pioneer species, it thrives in moist, low-lying areas and river valleys. While valued for windbreaks and borders, it is susceptible to various diseases and has shallow, invasive roots that require careful placement.
