About Happy Hour™ Mixture Portulaca

Happy Hour™ Mixture is a seed-grown Portulaca grandiflora selection in the Happy Hour™ series. It forms a compact mound and produces large flowers in a changing mix of colors. Ball lists Banana, Coconut, Deep Red, Fuchsia, Lemon, Orange, Rosita, and Scarlet among its mixture components. The product profile gives flowers from late spring through summer, a mature range of 8–10 inches tall by 10–12 inches wide, and full-sun exposure. The series is bred to flower earlier under shorter day lengths and is promoted for hot, dry conditions; it also attracts bees and butterflies. See [Ball Seed](https://info.ballseed.com/PlantInfo/?phid=050905416003332), [North Carolina Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/portulaca-grandiflora/common-name/rose-moss/), and [Kew Plants of the World Online](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:208592-2). ## Garden Use Its short, mounded form suits sunny containers, the front of a border, and rock or crevice gardens. The color mix gives a bed or pot a varied display rather than one uniform flower shade. ## Maintenance Plant in sharply drained sandy or rocky soil in full sun. Water lightly and let the soil dry between waterings; avoid persistently wet soil. Flowers close overnight and in cloudy or rainy weather.
