About Happy Trails™ Orange Portulaca

Happy Trails™ Orange is a trailing Portulaca grandiflora selection identified by PanAmerican Seed as PAS840842. The official page lists a height of 6–9 inches, a spread of 14–18 inches, summer and autumn flowering, and full-sun exposure. [PanAmerican Seed product details](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/050906324003789/portulaca-happy-trails-orange/) ## Profile The orange-flowered selection has a low, spreading habit that fits sunny borders, containers, hanging planters, and rock gardens. Moss rose is a low-growing annual with fleshy, succulent green foliage. Its flowers open in bright sunlight and close at night or during cloudy weather. The species tolerates heat and drought once established, so this selection can provide warm-season color in freely draining sites. [North Carolina Extension: rose moss](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/portulaca-grandiflora/common-name/rose-moss/) ## Maintenance Provide full sun and sandy or otherwise well-drained soil. Avoid persistently wet beds because poor drainage can cause crown rot. Water during establishment and prolonged dry spells while allowing excess moisture to drain. Remove spent flowers or seed capsules when reducing self-seeding is desired.
