Create design onlineAbout Prairie Winds® Apache Rose™ Switch Grass
Prairie Winds® Apache Rose™ is a sturdy, upright switch grass with dense gray-green foliage and rose-colored flower panicles. The leaf tips also take on rose tones in fall, creating a compact vertical accent through late summer and autumn.
## Garden Use
Plant it in sunny borders, mass plantings, or erosion-control areas. Proven Winners lists a mature height of 4 ft and spread of 30 inches, with USDA Zones 4–9. The panicles and fall foliage add seasonal color, while the upright clump holds its shape as the flowers mature.
## Growing Conditions
Give this selection full sun and average garden soil; average watering suits it, with less frequent watering once established. Proven Winners identifies it as drought and salt tolerant and notes deer resistance. Keep young plants watered while roots establish, especially during hot, dry weather.
## Maintenance
In late winter or early spring, cut the old foliage back before new growth begins. Leave the panicles standing over winter if you want their structure, then remove them with the previous season’s stems.
