About Primlet® Scarlet Red Shades Primula

Primlet® Scarlet Red Shades is a compact primrose selection with clusters of double, rosebud-like flowers in scarlet-red shades. The flowers are scented, and the grower lists winter and early spring flowering, a mounded habit, and a small 5–6 in. height by 5–7 in. width. [PanAmerican Seed](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/051104307021889/primula-primlet-scarlet-red-shades/) identifies the exact selection and PAS500536 product code. ## Growing conditions Grow in partial shade or in full sun where the soil remains moist. Loam and sand are suitable; provide moist but well-drained conditions. Primlet series plants form semi-evergreen foliage rosettes, with upright flower stems. ## Garden use Plant Scarlet Red Shades in a seasonal container, in the front of a flower border, or along an edge where its compact mound can be appreciated. It can also be paired with other cool-season plants in a small mixed container. ## Flowering season The grower lists early spring and winter flowering. In outdoor beds, primroses generally flower in spring; winter flowering is most useful in protected container or indoor culture. ## Maintenance No pruning is required. Keep the soil evenly moist without allowing it to become waterlogged. [RHS Primlet series profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/248961/primula-primlet-series-pr-prim/details)
