About Waboom - Wagon Tree

Protea nitida, known as the Wagon Tree or Waboom, is a slow-growing evergreen tree or large shrub native to South Africa. It is distinguished by its thick, fire-resistant white-grey bark and leathery, sea-green leaves that emerge a striking crimson. Historically prized for its timber used in wagon wheels, it now serves as a unique ornamental. It produces large, creamy-white flower heads throughout the year, attracting nectar-feeding birds to well-drained, acidic soils in full sun.
