About Gold Kist Apricot Tree

Gold Kist is an early-ripening apricot valued for large, freestone fruit and a harvest that can begin weeks before Blenheim in warm California growing regions. Its very early bloom makes a frost-aware site important, and its fruit set can benefit from a compatible apricot nearby even though the cultivar is self-fruitful. [Dave Wilson Nursery](https://www.wheretobuy.davewilson.com/product-information/product/gold-kist-apricot) and [Louie’s Nursery](https://www.louiesnursery.com/plants/fruit-trees/apricot-trees/gold-kist-apricot/) describe the selection and its early season. ## Fruit and pollination The orange fruit is suitable for fresh eating, canning, or drying. Gold Kist is listed for USDA zones 7–9 and about 300 chill hours; local chill accumulation and spring frost exposure affect reliability. A second apricot cultivar flowering at the same time may help stabilize crops. ## Siting Give this fruit tree a sunny position and regular water during establishment and fruit development. Rootstock changes mature size: Dave Wilson lists Nemaguard at standard size and Citation at about three-quarters standard size, so allow for the selected rootstock when planning spacing. ## Maintenance Water deeply while the root zone establishes, keep grass and weeds from competing at the base, and prune in dry weather after harvest or as locally advised for apricots. Remove fallen fruit to reduce mess and unwanted seedlings.
