Create design onlineAbout Tilton Apricot Fruit Tree
Tilton is a widely adapted apricot valued for firm, medium to large fruit with rich flavor. The crop is especially useful for canning and also works well fresh or dried; the fruit is self-fruitful and ripens in early July in Dave Wilson Nursery’s Central California reference calendar. Harvest timing varies with local climate.
## Garden Use
Plant Tilton in a sunny home orchard where the mature canopy can spread without crowding paths or nearby trees. Harvest fruit for fresh eating, drying, or preserves.
## Growing Conditions
Choose full sun and well-drained soil. Apricots bloom early, so flowers and young fruit may be affected by late spring frost. Provide consistent water while the tree establishes, then adjust irrigation to soil and weather.
## Maintenance
Train young branches into an open framework and remove dead or crossing wood. Prune selectively after harvest or during dormancy, and thin a heavy fruit set when needed. Watch for common stone-fruit pests and diseases.
