Create design onlineAbout Lapins Cherry Tree
Lapins is a dark mahogany-red sweet cherry with firm, sweet fruit and a late harvest. Washington State University identifies it as self-fertile, developed by the Pacific Agri-Food Research Centre in Summerland, British Columbia. The WSU profile places bloom two to four days before Bing and ripening about ten to fourteen days after Bing.
## Site and Fruit
Grow Lapins in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil that remains moist during active growth. It blooms in spring with the white flowers characteristic of sweet cherry. Its self-fertility allows a single Lapins tree to set fruit without another cherry cultivar, though other compatible cherries may still support pollination activity. Protect the crop from birds and pick ripe fruit before it softens.
## Maintenance
Prune to build a balanced framework and maintain light and air through the canopy. Water consistently during establishment and fruit development, then reduce excess moisture after harvest as local weather allows. Remove broken or crossing branches and keep mulch clear of the trunk.
