‘Evans Bali’ is a cold-hardy tart cherry with showy white spring flowers followed by bright red cherries in mid-summer. The University of Minnesota lists a mature range of 15–20 feet tall and 10–15 feet wide, USDA zones 3–9, and self-pollinating fruit set. ## Garden use
Grow this sour cherry in a sunny edible garden or small orchard. The tart fruit is useful fresh when fully ripe and for pies, preserves, and juice. It can set fruit without a second tree, which makes it practical where orchard space is limited. Allow room for its mature spread and avoid planting over a lawn or walkway if fallen fruit would be a concern.
## Maintenance
Keep the root zone evenly moist without standing water, and reduce grass competition near the trunk. Water through dry periods, especially while the tree is establishing and fruit is developing. Prune in late winter after the threat of extreme cold has passed; summer pruning can improve airflow and make harvest easier.
