Create design onlineAbout Dapple Dandy Pluot® Tree
Dapple Dandy is an interspecific plum–apricot fruit with greenish-yellow skin mottled red and creamy white or pink flesh. Dave Wilson identifies it as a Zaiger selection, lists U.S. Plant Patent 9,254, and reports a late-midseason harvest; the exact calendar dates vary by growing region.
## Fruit and Pollination
The fruit has a plum–apricot flavor and a short peak window, so check ripeness often and harvest selectively. The nursery lists Flavor Supreme, Flavor King, Santa Rosa, Catalina, or Burgundy as pollinizers. Its source gives a 400–500-hour chill requirement and USDA zones 5–10. “Dinosaur Egg®” is a retail name used for the Dapple Dandy fruit.
## Site and Rootstock
Choose a sunny, well-drained site for a productive stone-fruit tree. The nursery lists both Citation semi-dwarf and Myro 29C standard rootstocks; choose spacing for the actual rootstock on the tree rather than assuming one mature size for all Dapple Dandy plants.
## Maintenance
Keep soil evenly moist through establishment and fruit growth without waterlogging the roots. Prune to maintain a stable framework and light through the canopy, and thin harvests if branches become heavily loaded.
