Flavor King® is a plum–apricot interspecific hybrid sold as a Pluot®. It produces medium red fruit with deep red-to-purple flesh and a rich, spicy-sweet flavor, ripening in early to mid-August in California’s Fresno area.
## Fruit and Pollination
The [Dave Wilson Nursery Flavor King profile](https://www.wheretobuy.davewilson.com/product-information-commercial/product/flavor-king-pluot-interspecific-plum) describes a naturally small, moderately spreading tree and recommends a pollenizer such as Flavor Supreme Pluot®, Santa Rosa plum, or Late Santa Rosa plum. The fruit can crack, so the grower recommends it for home gardens and direct-market settings rather than broad commercial distribution. Harvest dates and chilling estimates on that page are approximate for California.
## Garden Placement
Give the tree a sunny, well-drained site and room for its spreading canopy. A pollenizer that blooms at a compatible time is important for fruit set. The [Flavor King plant patent](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP8026P/en) describes white flowers and green foliage, consistent with the current color fields.
## Maintenance
Prune to keep the canopy open and reachable, and monitor developing fruit for cracking after rain or irrigation fluctuations. Pick ripe fruit promptly and handle it gently.
