About Frost Proof Peach

Frost is a self-fruitful peach with a showy pink spring bloom and yellow freestone fruit suited to fresh eating or canning. In central California, the harvest window is July 10–27, and the tree requires about 700 chill hours. ## Fruit and disease notes The fruit has a slight red blush over yellow-green to yellow skin and is borne heavily. Leaf-curl resistance is useful in areas where the disease is common, but it does not mean the tree is immune. [UC Agriculture and Natural Resources](https://ucanr.edu/blog/real-dirt/article/peach-leaf-curl-0) advises that even resistant Frost peaches may need preventive fungicide during their first few years. Dave Wilson Nursery reports resistance to peach leaf curl based on ten-year Washington State University trials; The Tree Farm describes named Frost peaches in semi-dwarf and standard forms. [Dave Wilson Nursery](https://www.wheretobuy.davewilson.com/product-information/product/frost-peach) and [The Tree Farm](https://www.thetreefarm.com/peach-frost) document these traits. ## Site and placement Choose full sun and allow room for a productive fruit tree. The Tree Farm lists USDA Zones 5–7 and notes different mature heights for semi-dwarf and standard stock; keep the expected rootstock form in mind when spacing. Local winter chill and spring weather affect flowering and crop reliability, so use the harvest dates as a regional guide rather than a promise. ## Maintenance Water deeply during establishment and keep moisture steady as fruit develops. Prune to maintain an open, manageable framework, and remove excess fruit if a heavy set strains branches. In peach-leaf-curl areas, follow local disease-prevention guidance before buds open, especially while a young tree is becoming established.
