Indian Free is a late-season white peach with firm crimson-and-cream flesh, a freestone pit, and a highly aromatic flavor when fully ripe. The exact [Dave Wilson Nursery cultivar page](https://www.davewilson.com/nurseries/products/fruit-trees/peach-white/indian_free/) lists an August 25–September 10 maturity window in California, 700 chill hours, zones 5–9, and a need for another peach or nectarine as a pollenizer.
## Growing conditions
Plant in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil with room for a fruiting tree. Indian Free’s late harvest and winter-chill requirement make local climate suitability important; the California dates are a regional reference, not a universal calendar. Peaches flower in spring, and a compatible nearby peach or nectarine can support fruit set. [Dave Wilson Nursery’s Variety Finder](https://www.wheretobuy.davewilson.com/product-information/product/indian-free-white-peach) also lists Citation, Lovell, and Nemaguard rootstock options; rootstock can affect tree size and soil adaptation.
## Maintenance
Water deeply during dry weather, especially through establishment and fruit sizing, while keeping the root zone from becoming waterlogged. Prune in late winter to maintain an open canopy and remove damaged wood. The nursery describes Indian Free as highly resistant to peach leaf curl, but resistance does not eliminate disease risk. Monitor foliage and fruit, remove diseased debris, and follow local extension guidance for pest or disease management. Pick when fruit is fully ripe for its distinctive aroma and flavor.
