June Gold is an early-season, yellow-fleshed peach with firm fruit and red skin. The [Dave Wilson Nursery selection page](https://www.davewilson.com/nurseries/products/fruit-trees/peach-yellow/june_gold/) gives a June 20–July 4 maturity range in California, a 600-hour chilling requirement, and self-fruitfulness; the date is climate-specific and other regional trials report different harvest timing and stone freeness.
## Growing conditions
Plant in full sun in well-drained soil and allow room for a fruit tree canopy. Spring flowers precede the crop, and the exact harvest period depends on winter chill, spring weather, and local summer temperatures. Choose a site with good air movement and access for pruning, thinning, and picking. The [University of Georgia peach cultivar table](https://extension.uga.edu/publications/detail.html?number=C877) lists Junegold under its Georgia trial conditions, illustrating why regional performance notes should be interpreted locally.
## Maintenance
Water deeply during establishment and during dry periods while fruit is sizing, without keeping roots saturated. Prune in late winter to maintain an open framework and remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Thin fruit when the crop is heavy, monitor for common peach pests and diseases, and promptly remove fallen or damaged fruit. Harvest when the skin is colored and the fruit softens slightly with gentle pressure; handle ripe peaches carefully to prevent bruising.
