About Red Haven Peach Tree

Redhaven is a freestone peach introduced by the Michigan Agricultural Experiment Station in 1940. It produces medium fruit with yellow flesh and a red blush, and grows into a vigorous, spreading tree. ## Flowers and fruit Pink spring blossoms precede the summer crop. The yellow-fleshed peaches are freestone and suited to fresh eating, preserving, and freezing. The cultivar is also listed as ‘Red Haven’ in horticultural references. ## Growing conditions Give the tree full sun and moist, well-drained soil. Allow room for a broad canopy, and remember that mature size depends on rootstock and pruning. Protect flowers from late frost where spring freezes are common. ## Maintenance Water deeply during establishment and during dry spells, keeping soil evenly moist without leaving roots waterlogged. Prune while dormant to maintain an open framework that admits light and air; thin developing fruit if the branches are heavily loaded. Harvest when fruit colors and softens, checking regularly as the crop ripens.
