Create design onlineAbout Santa Rosa Plum Tree
Santa Rosa is a Japanese plum with white spring blossoms and large red-to-purple fruit that ripens around midseason. It can set fruit on its own, while a second Japanese plum nearby can improve the harvest ([Arbor Day Foundation](https://shop.arborday.org/nursery/santa-rosa-plum)).
## Garden Use
This vigorous, columnar tree suits a sunny orchard or edible landscape. Allow for a mature height of about 18–25 feet and a spread of 10–20 feet; its fruit is useful fresh, cooked, or canned. The cultivar is hardy in USDA zones 5–9.
## Growing Conditions
Choose full sun and loamy, well-drained soil. Consistent moisture supports establishment and fruit development; avoid waterlogged ground.
## Maintenance
Water regularly while the tree establishes, then irrigate during dry periods as needed. Prune during dormancy to maintain a strong framework and an open canopy for light and picking. Thin an especially heavy crop if branches become crowded or overloaded.
