About Bubblegum 'Toka' Plum Tree

Toka, also called Bubblegum plum, is a self-pollinating selection with very sweet fruit and creamy-white spring flowers. It ripens in August and September, and its abundant pollen can also help pollinate other plum trees ([University of Minnesota UFOR](https://trees.umn.edu/toka-plum-prunus-salicina-toka)). ## Seasonal Character The rounded, vase-shaped tree grows about 15–20 feet tall and wide. Reddish-bronze fruit has apricot-colored flesh; green leaves turn burgundy-purple in autumn. Toka is suited to USDA zones 3–8 and offers both a fruit crop and seasonal foliage color. ## Growing Conditions Plant in full sun to part shade in well-drained soil with medium moisture. Allow room for the mature canopy and keep the root zone evenly watered while the tree establishes. ## Maintenance Water during dry weather, especially in the first seasons after planting. Prune selectively to maintain the vase-shaped structure and remove damaged wood. The tree can fruit without a pollinator, though its pollen is useful in a mixed plum planting.
