Yoshino Cherry Tree

The Yoshino cherry is a deciduous flowering tree with a broad, spreading crown, typically reaching 30–40 feet high and 20–50 feet wide. Its spring flowers precede the summer canopy, and small dark fruits may follow the bloom. ## Growing Conditions Plant in full sun or partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. NC State lists clay, loam, sand, and organic-rich soils, with a USDA hardiness range of Zones 5–8. The open, spreading canopy and yellow fall color extend its seasonal value beyond flowering. ## Maintenance Allow adequate space around the crown and plan for leaf and fruit cleanup near paving. Check periodically for common cherry pests and diseases, and prune selectively to maintain safe structure.
