Common guava (*Psidium guajava*) is an evergreen, single- or multi-trunked fruit tree with a spreading to upright canopy. It bears fragrant white flowers in the leaf axils, followed by round, oval or pear-shaped fruit whose peel and flesh colors vary by cultivar. UF/IFAS horticultural profiles give different upper height estimates of 20 and 30 feet.
## Landscape Use
[UF/IFAS Extension](https://ask.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/MG045) recommends full sun and 15–25 feet of spacing from other trees and structures; its [species profile](https://plant-directory.ifas.ufl.edu/plant-directory/psidium-guajava/) describes the larger upper-size estimate. Guava tolerates many soil types and established plants can withstand prolonged drought, though water during dry weather supports fruit development. In South Florida, it can spread aggressively into natural areas, so follow local planting guidance and prevent escape.
## Maintenance
Water young trees regularly as they establish and irrigate during extended dry periods, especially when fruit is setting. Prune selectively to manage size and keep the canopy accessible for harvest. Check fruit color, flavor and mature size for the particular cultivar, because these traits vary widely within the species.
